As A Management Consultant, I Decided To Make A Business Plan With The Goddess In Another World – Prologue

Prologue

There was a profession called “military strategist”.

Or perhaps the word “profession” is a misnomer.

It’s not a profession in modern sense of the word.

In the olden days, a “royal advisor” was a person who stood by the side of kings and generals and who had the role of leading their armies to victory by devising strategies based on his or her own judgment and planning.

In today’s terms, “general counsel” would be a more accurate description.

Sometimes, relying solely on their wisdom and resourcefulness, they would be calm and ruthless, and would work to achieve a thoroughly rational and efficient objective. And they aim for their destinations in a thoroughly rational and efficient manner.

Even if you are at the top of your game, only you can succeed with your own resourcefulnes. But if you are a military strategist, you can create as many winners as the number of people you support.

That is the coolest way to live.

……I’ve lived my whole life thinking that.

“What the hell are you doing!!”

An office in a high-rise building. Loud cursing echoing from a cell phone.

Listening to it with his ears away is a man who looks like a businessman.

“We are about to be sued because of you, you worthless piece of shit! You’re just a consultant!”

“Technically, I’m a management consultant.” (Seitaro)

“I don’t give a shit which one!”

The caller becomes even more agitated when the man, who does not mind being yelled at, retorts in a light tone of voice.

“I’m telling you that’s not what I asked for! I asked for a cost reduction! Why should I be charged for doing what you told me to do?”

“I proposed several plans to you,……, but you chose the riskiest one, didn’t you, Mr. President? ─ ─ Didn’t I explain it to you properly? I told you that tweaking the overtime pay was the most cost-effective way to reduce costs, but it carried the highest risk of lawsuits.” (Seitaro)

“Don’t play dumb with me, ……!”

There is a banging sound on the desk or something.

“I did it because you told me to! It’s all your fault! I’m going to sue your company!”

“Well, if you say so, sir…” (Seitaro)

The call is abruptly disconnected.

Izumi looked up and see his boss, who was crossing his arms and making irritating shoe noises.

“Izumi-kun……Seitaro Izumi-kun.”

“……Yes.” (Seitaro)

Seitaro put his feet down on the desk and turned to his boss, thinking, “What a pain in the ass”.

He knew what he would be told. Knowing this, he sighed.

“I’ve heard what you have to say. The other party may have been at fault this time, but that response was too much! In general…”

“But ..” (Seitaro)

Seitaro said, interrupting his boss.

“I don’t care if he’s a spoiled son who took over the company form his parents, but he’s a president, so he needs to study business a little more, or else we won’t be able to do our job.”

“How many times do I have to tell you that it’s part of my job to make the other party understand? Anyway, if you continue like this, it will affect your personnel evaluation!”

“…… sigh!”

Seitaro stood up, following his boss back to his seat with his eyes as he mumbled to himself.

Personnel evaluation, huh?

Management Consultant.

In other words, they are like military strategists for the company. They are in charge of supporting the company’s management to success by utilizing the knowledge and experience they have cultivated.

It is a job that requires a high level of ability to match the high compensation, so to speak.

In order to get a job at a major consulting firm, Seitaro studied hard and got good grades without making friends or having a girlfriend, in order to get into a top university.

To be a winner in life.

And when, after all his hard work, he got a job at a major consulting firm, he would eventually be success.

He resent the time when he naively thought that since he had worked so hard, his life would be smooth sailing and that all he had to do was follow an elite course.

(“I will be surrounded by CEOs and other senior executives, who must have been smart and elite, and if they recognized me, I would be one of the successful ones, and I will the best consultant ever! That’s what I thought.)

In reality, all he deals with at work are either selfish, moody, and not very smart CEOs, or project managers who are so preoccupied with their superiors’ opinions that they can never get things done and don’t understand why they are there.

(I can’t be a winner if I work with these of people.)

As long as he is working for a company, he has to flatter them no matter how incompetent they are. The only way to be valued is to accumulate credibility and achievements from clients.

He understand that.

But such trivial things take up a lot of energy, waste a lot of time, and are inefficient. How can we survive in this rapidly changing world?

He wanted to prove himsy more.

And he wanted to be appreciated.

He wish he could find a client who is smarter, who understands him, and who needs him.

Not that stupid, inarticulate, over-the-top guy with a title.

It doesn’t matter if he’s just starting out, or if he works for a small company that’s going down the tubes. He wants to make a big turnaround, from rock bottom to the top, with his own hands.

He wanted to be like a military strategist who will go down in history.

(……)

He glance at his watch. It’s just about noon.

The only thing he had to do this morning was to have a meeting, a time to deal with idiots.

His boss doesn’t even look at him, but he can tell just by his mood that he is annoyed.

  • I should reset the atmosphere before I start my next task.
  • With this thought in mind, he head for the elevator.

(There is no such thing as a great turnaround.)

He knows. In order to be a winner in this shitty society, you have to do your shitty job well and steadily build up your credibility and achievements.

So, it’s the same this afternoon, tomorrow, and forever.

    Or so he thought.

    Until he met that person.
